Biography
Darren Tanti (b. 1987) is a contemporary artist recognised for his thematically rich and technically accomplished work. His artistic practice centres on hyperreality and the exploration of experimental techniques, particularly the hybridisation of digital processes with academic traditions of art.
Over the years, Tanti has continuously evolved his practice through the integration of diverse media and exhibition formats. His work has been presented in numerous international contexts. Among his most prestigious exhibitions are Time, Space, Existence at Palazzo Mora during the Venice Architecture Biennale (2014), Homo Melitensis at the Venice Art Biennale (2017), and the acclaimed Ostrale Biennale (2019) in Dresden.
He has also participated in every edition of the APS Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale.
Tanti has gained widespread recognition for his major solo exhibitions, including Ahmar Helu u Qares (2021), Inaction is a Weapon of Mass Destruction (2022), shortlisted for the Art Council Malta’s “Production of the Year; Visual Arts” award in 2023, Remember/Dismember (2023), and Apotheosis (2023), supported by the Valletta Cultural Agency.
His works are held in private collections both locally and internationally, as well as in public institutions including MUŻA, the Embassy of Malta in Washington, D.C., and the Benetton Foundation in Treviso, Italy.
Academic & Professional Practice
Tanti has over 15 years of experience in art education across multiple levels. From 2016 to 2021, he served as Coordinator of Art and Fine Art. He is currently Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts and lectures on the Master in Teaching and Learning programme at the University of Malta.
He is presently appointed as Ambassador for the Visual Arts by the Art Council Malta.
