This work considers the self not as singular, but as something accompanied by its own projection. The figure appears in profile, suspended in a moment of inwardness, while the shadow beside her acquires an unexpected autonomy. Rather than functioning merely as a formal device, it introduces another register of presence: one that suggests memory, psychic residue, or an aspect of the self that cannot be fully gathered into appearance. The painting is therefore less a portrait than a study of division, asking how a person occupies space while also being followed by other versions of herself.
